My kids sometimes reminisce about their childhood years. They remember when I used to blast rock ‘n’ roll music and we’d dance while we were cleaning the house. Music is a natural accompaniment to the rhythms of life.
My son-in-law still smiles about the time when my husband and I were there with them after they bought their first house. He came around the corner and found my daughter, Kate, and my husband and I dancing to a Temptations song—the cardboard boxes all around us. I think he was struck by the spontaneity. To this day, we “chair dance” when the music, and the spirit, moves us.
I still remember the first time we attended a Riverdance performance.. It was riveting—the energy, the impeccable timing, the intricacy of the steps.. More than 20 million people have viewed the following video—the final dance in the performance.
If you’ve read any of the contemporary romances in my Providence Office Series, you’ll know that dancing is part of the connective tissue. Many of the characters dance, particularly, Irish step and tap dancing.
Today, the Gardiner brothers have taken the internet by storm. They are among the most accomplished step and tap dancing duo I have seen.
Two of the characters from the Providence Office Series, Tom and Jamie Oakley, are modeled after the Gardiner brothers—when it comes to their dancing.
Recently, a friend of mine lost his twin when his brother had a heart attack. He was in his early forties and left behind a wife and three children. I read the obituary and one line struck me particularly hard. His brother loved to dance with his wife and kids while they cooked in the kitchen.. My character, Gabe, in The List honors that—he grabs Kate and starts dancing with her whenever a favorite song is playing.
So, when it comes to dance—don’t put it off, don’t wait until the next wedding—dance while you can.
Thanks for tuning in,
Margaret
